Alloy with shape memory effect.

Description

Offer refers to the alloys with a shape memory effect. The alloy contains manganese, chromium, and copper. Either germanium, nickel, or silicon can be added depending on the specific application of the alloy. The alloy is melted out in the open induction furnace, quenched in water, and then plastically deformed so as to induce thermosensitive property. A needed product is then manufactured from this alloy.

Benefits

The offered alloy is cheap, as it contains Mn (70-80%), Cu (15 %), and some percent of alloying additives. It is melted out in accordance with ordinary metallurgical technology, and has a high processability in metallurgical conversion. The temperature area of the maximum thermosensitive properties of the alloy with the same composition can be adjusted by heat treatment from 10-30 °C up to 140-160 °C, and after modifying the composition - up to 180 °C. Thus the maximum flexure increases from (50-60)x10sup.6 °Csup.-1 up to (100-110)x10sup.6 °Csup.-1. The offered alloy has no hysteresis (a heating curve is the same as a cooling one), and has high forming reversibility (it has serviceability up to 10sup.6 thermal strain cycles and no feature change if there is no external load). The alloy has maximum durability and stability as a result of the appropriate heat treatment at the temperature of 100-160 °C. The alloy can be subjected to copper coating, silvering, cadmium plating, chromizing, etc. The alloy does not change its properties at the operation under high radiation conditions.

Project development

Heat drives made of this alloy were tested both under laboratory and industrial conditions. These drives were applied in the automatic control system of power installations, in the pilot's air conditioning system, and in the fire safety system.

Legal protection of technologies

The offered alloy is covered by the Russian patent. The international application for the alloy with advanced properties is under preparation.

Application, commercial use

The offered alloy can find its application in the manufacturing of thermosensitive elements (high precision heat-sensing devices and heat regulators) used in automatic control systems of various power and technological processes, in the aircraft, and in fire safety systems.
