Technologies MATERIALS
Project #098
Hight-damping solder.

Description

The solder mainly consists of manganese and copper and can be manufactured as a tape of 0.2-1 mm thickness or a wire of 0.3-3 mm diameter. The solder has the following features:

Melting temperature 820-900°C
Yield strength 300 MPa, Ultimate strength 400 MPa
Extension strain 25%
Electric resistance 140 mkOhm/cm
Thermal conductivity 0.130 W/m*K
Strength of soldered joint =<250 MPa
Damping ability 40%

Benefits

In comparison with silver solders used at present the given solder has higher damping properties (damping ability increased up to 30-40% by means of low temperature heat treatment), good mechanical properties and cost decreased by a factor of 3-4.

Using the said solder a good temperature stress relaxation in the shut zone is provided. The solder high resistance promotes its fast heating at the resistance soldering, and prevents an overheating of carbide blades and tool body. The solder melting temperature can be adjusted by varying the chemical composition.

Project development

Solder was used for coupling carbide tips to saw body. Testing of the saw blade showed that offered solder provided:

  • high technological effectivness;
  • strength of the coupling is comparable with strength of silver solder coupling;
  • high fatigue strength under multi-cycle loading;
  • not less than 5 times of tip sharpening.

Legal protection of technologies

Russian patents.

Application, commercial use

The solder can be applied in any engineering field where parts to be soldered should operate under vibration and impact loads, are required, in particular, to solder carbide tips onto the tool body or saw blade.
