Project #111
Galvanic technology of putting wear-resistant protecting coating "nickel-boron".

Description

Offered technology allows to put "nickel-boron" coating on different steels, as well as on copper, aluminum and their alloys. The "nickel-boron" coating is widely known but is produced by chemical means using boron-containing additions: sodium boronhydrite, dimethylamineboran, hydrosinboran. These compounds are harmful for human beings (relatively safe harm level about 0,05 mg/cubic m). A distinguishing peculiarity of the offered technology is a sedimentation of said coating under the action of current (electric sedimentation) from the aqueous electrolyte containing boron addition of a new class. These are polyhedral borate salts having relatively safe harm level about 1-2 mg/cubic m. Offered technology is characterized by following parameters:

  • sedimentation rate 0,5-1,0 mm/min;
  • dissolution temperature 45-55 °C;
  • cathode density of current 5-10 A/sq.dm;
  • energy consumption on the coating of 1 sq.dm of surface while the coating thickness;
  • being 5 mm 1,2 x10-3 kWxh;
  • pH of the dissolution 3,5-4,0.

Benefits

Offered technology of galvanic application of "nickel-boron" coating is economically more favorable in comparison with known technology of chemical deposition. Offered technology is characterized by the use of more stable solution, by the greater ecological purity and high coating application rate (it makes 40-60 mm/hour, therewith in given analogs it makes 25-30 mm/hour).

Project development

Coatings manufactured by the proposed technology have the following properties:

  • micro-hardness of the coating (11-18).102 kg/sq.mm;
  • coefficient of dry sliding friction 0.1-0.12;
  • temperature range of the coating application -269...+700°C;
  • coating corrosion velocity in the

    Cl-ion 0.05 mm per year,
    OH-ion 0.0001 mm per year;
  • media where the "nickel-boron" coating is chemically stable:

helium, vacuum, radiation, alkali, sea mist, oil products, oils, manure, some organic acids.

Nowadays parts with the "nickel-boron" coating put on by the present technology are used on a series of energetic objects in Russia.

Legal protection of technologies

Russian pending patent applications.

Application, commercial use

This offered technology can be used for putting wear-resistant protecting coating "nickel-boron" with the purpose of the surface protecting and strengthening on the following parts: fitting surfaces and raceways of rolling bearings, slide valves, rods for the valves of high-pressure pipelines (valve devices), bushings and rods of pumps used in industry.
